Unlock your full potential, fellas. Feed your brain with the real smart foods: vegetables. The good Earth has given us this beautiful bounty of nutritious plants so why not dig in? You can serve them up in a salad, as a side dish or as a little snack … whatever you have to do to trick yourself into eating them. One more time: eat your vegetables.
You’ll think me for it. Get it? Think me for it. Maybe if you ate more brain-maintaining vegetables you would have gotten that one a little sooner. OK, let’s move on.
Veggies are a rich source of vitamins such as iron, folate, B12 and B6 – all beneficial to your memory and cognitive abilities. So, there’s really no excuse, is there?
1 – Beets
I’m just gonna go ahead and put it out there – you don’t eat enough beets. There, I said it. Now what are you going to do about it? Your brain is begging for beets and all those natural nitrates they possess. What do natural nitrates do? They are basically turbochargers that give mental performance a boost by increasing blood flow to your smart part.
2 – Spinach
The dark leafy green stuff does wonders for the body, especially the brain. Processes work more smoothly and memory stays crisp. Oxygen absorption is also increased, as is cognitive ability. Why are you not on your way right now to get some fresh spinach?
3 – Broccoli
Brocolli? More like Rockolli! Broccoli is in the cabbage family, but don’t hold that against it. Broccoli scores super-high on the ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) meter, giving you that extra helping of thinking sauce when you need it most. 4 – Cauliflower
This stuff even looks like a brain, which should have been a big clue right there. Don’t let the fact that it is usually comes in that creepy white color scare you off. Now in designer colors like orange and purple, if that helps. Actually, go for the purple if you can find it, studies show that purple vegetables protect brain cells.
5 – Raw Ginger Root
This one is not on a lot of people’s menus … and for good reason. It has to be one of the ugliest vegetables going. You don’t want that manatee-foot looking thing in your basket. But get over it – raw ginger root boasts the highest ORAC rating of all the vegetables, which can keep your brain functioning at the highest level.
